A&E’s police drama, The Glades, in production for it’s second season is about alligators, palm trees and bodies, it’s all in a day’s work for Jim Longworth (Aussie Matt Passmore) an attractive, brilliant, yet hard to get along with homicide detective from Chicago who gets shot by his captain after being wrongfully accused of sleeping with his wife. Exiled from the department, Longworth relocates to the sleepy, middle of nowhere town of Palm Glade, Florida, where the sunshine and golf are plentiful and crime is seemingly at a minimum. Only this town outside the Florida Everglades isn’t quite as idyllic as he thought, as he finds people keep turning up murdered. Each case pulls Longworth off the golf course and reluctantly into his element as one of the sharpest homicide detectives to wear a badge. Between practicing his short game, trying to get a date with Callie – a quick-witted, beautiful medical student with a 12 year-old son and a husband in prison – and trying to solve countless homicide cases, Longworth’s transition to his new surroundings is a bit more difficult than expected. Welcome to The Glades, where it’s sunny with a chance of homicide.
The Glades, which is created by Clifton Campbell, executive producer on another smart police show, White Collar, also stars Kiele Sanchez (30 Days of Night: Dark Days), Carlos Gomez (TV’s Shark) and Michelle Hurd (TV’s Gossip Girl).

“The Glades” is set in the Fictitious Rural Town of Palm Glades, Starring, stars Matt Passmore and Kiele Sanchez. Matt is a Chicago homicide detective who has been forced to relocate to the sleepy Florida town, which turns out to have more crime than he had hoped which it is interfering with his golf game!
In “The Glades,” Australian actor Matt Passmore stars as Jim Longworth, a newcomer to the Sunshine State. Previously a homicide detective in Chicago who was unjustly accused of a dalliance with his former captain’s wife, he decided to head to warmer climes, where he could pursue his love of golf. He now lives in the fictional town of Palm Glade, works for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement as a detective, and in between tee times, takes up the occasional crime in his own idiosyncratic way. And the murders just keep coming, whether it’s a body in a swamp, one found in an airplane at a nature preserve or a guy who turned up dead at a bikini contest. Each time, Longworth reluctantly leaves the golf course and pesters people until he gets to the truth. “There’s something extremely liberating,” Passmore says, “about a guy who doesn’t give a toss what people think about him, as long as he gets the job done.” But Longworth’s also not exactly a bad-cop type of interrogator. “He hides his agenda,” Passmore says. “What comes across, and what I love to play with this guy, is he just makes sure that he’s not bored at any time. “So, if he’s interrogating somebody to get something, he’s going to poke and prod the guy, so that he’s having a good time. It’s Jim Longworth’s enjoying himself; if it gets a little too boring, he can flip it on its head.”

This episode, “Honey” sends Detective Jim Longworth to the Blues Rock Casino which is a high-end gambling facility that is owned by Native Americans. It’s is also filled with many millions of dollars worth of rock ‘n’ roll memorabilia. The top executive, Darcy Owens, ends up falling through a skylight and lands right on a roulette table. It is first hinted at a suicide but Jim isn’t convinced, as nothing in “The Glades” is ever what it seems. He also deals with working with Josie Tigertail to allow the FDLE to run point on the investigation which doesn’t go to well so Jim ends up faking that Darcy Owens is still alive. Jim and Carlos rush the body to the hospital where Callie works where Carlos pronounces the executive dead so he could run point. Officer Tigertail doesn’t take to kind to this and pulls Jim over but before letting him go, she tosses his keys in a body of water. Jim ends up solving the case (like always) where the death was an accident (but still murder) and was a way to distract Darcy from the cameras long enough to steal “Honey” which is a guitar of a legendary performer. It’s revealed that Officer Tigertail could be returning in the future but working with Jim as a part of the FDLE as she asked for a reference to which Jim agreed.
Of course, I doubt many people tuned in for the case after seeing the preview for this episode. Earlier in the episode, Callie reveals that she no longer wants to be friends with Jim which proves more so than ever, that the feelings that Jim has for Callie are easily returned. Later on in the episode, Callie shows up at Jim’s house despite not wanting to be friends anymore to see that Officer Tigertail is with Jim “working” on the case which seems to worry Callie after Jeff (Callie’s son) wanted to invite Jim and his “girlfriend” Josie over for diner which of course, she isn’t his girlfriend. In the end, Jim is shown sitting in front of water having his daily beer when Callie shows up. Jim questions whether they are just friends or not which leads to the moment seventy five percent of viewers (myself included) have waited on which is the kiss. It took nine episodes but it finally happened so the ball is in play, let’s hope they don’t drop it. “There’s a weird, off-speed criminality that happens in Florida,” Campbell says. “When we got A&E in on developing this into the series it has become, a lot of the conversation was, ‘It seems like every aberrant crime that happens, it happens in Florida, or someone has fled to Florida.” As to why this is, Campbell says, “I can’t put my finger on it. I grew up around it, so I’m used to it. It wasn’t until I got out in the world and talked to people about where I’m from, and they’d go, ‘That’s a weird place, isn’t it?’ I guess it is.”

The Glades, the Case of the Charming Cop, Matt Passmore

The Glades star Matt Passmore says “He doesn’t mean to be annoying, but he just is…all the time,” who plays the role of homicide detective Jim Longworth. “Because he’s just right. He really likes being right. I think he looks at everyone else with pity, as wouldn’t you like to be as right as me? But, you’re not.”
“My goal was to write a murder mystery that has solid characters,” says The Glades executive producer Clifton Campbell. “I’m a native of Florida and know there are a lot of weird crimes here. I think it’s the perfect location for a guy like this.”
“I play Callie,” says The Glades star Kiele Sanchez. “At first my character can’t stand him, but there’s a little sexual tension there.” Callie is working as a nurse and caring for her 12-year-old son. She’s amused and annoyed by Longworth’s pursuit of her.
“They put this alligator on my table,” says The Glades star Carolos Gomez who plays the role of Carlos Sanchez. “I’m the medical examiner on the show and I kind of freak out. I’m not going to autopsy an alligator.”
