kielesanchez.com learned that the following key players have signed on to the project, which is being helmed by Ben Ketai (who also directed and co-wrote the “30 Days of Night: Dust to Dust” TV series) and started filming this week:
Rhys Coiro (“Entourage”, “24″) takes on one of the lead roles, and Mia Kirshner (De Palma’s The Black Dahlia, “24″) plays the lead vampire villain “Lilith”. Also starring are Harold Perrineau (“Lost”, “Oz”), Kiele Sanchez (A Perfect Getaway, “Lost”), and genre vet Diora Baird (Night of the Demons, Stan Helsing). Dark Days will tell the story of Stella Olemaun (Melissa George’s character from the first film, who is being recast) as she heads to Los Angeles after surviving the vampire attack in Barrow, Alaska. She intentionally attracts the attention of the local vampire population in order to avenge the death of her husband, Eben, during the Barrow incident.

Stage 6 Films and Ghost House Pictures have officially announced that lensing of 30 Days of Night: Dark Days has begun in Vancouver, Canada.
The sequel to 2007’s David Slade film, 30 Days of Night, Dark Days stars Kiele Sanchez, Diora Baird, Rhys Coiro, Mia Kirshner and Harold Perrineau.
Bloody Disgusting reports that Oleson will instead be played by Kiele Sanchez, perhaps best known as the castaway Nikki on the third season of “Lost.”
While her character wasn’t exactly a fan-favorite, Sanchez as an actress wasn’t widely panned—viewers mostly took issue with Nikki’s introduction into the series—so her status as the new “30 Days of Night” lead shouldn’t be seen as an automatic downgrade from Melissa George, but an upgrade to the movie.
As previously reported, the plot of “Dark Days” will focus on Stella seeking vengeance against Lilith (Kirshner), the vampire queen responsible for the destruction of Stella’s Alaskan hometown and the death of her husband, played by Josh Hartnett in the first film.
Stella is given the opportunity to strike back against Lilith after running into “a group of lost souls” played by Coiro, Perrineau and actress Diora Baird. The vampire-hunting trio—now a quartet thanks to Stella—venture off “into the uncharted underbelly of Los Angeles” in order to put an end to the vampires once and for all. (more…)
